Stress, burnout, absenteeism and presenteeism (being at work but with little presence or productivity) is a growing concern for businesses throughout the UK.
Some facts:
"A staggering 92% of UK employees admit to experiencing burnout or stress in the workplace during their careers," (Soutar. L. 2024) which continues to be a growing issue desperately requiring attention.
Mental ill health and musculoskeletal injuries are two of the top causes of both short-term and long-term absence (from work) (CIPD, 2023);
In a study conducted in 2024 by Mental Health UK, 35% of adults were found to experience high or extreme levels of pressure and stress; and six in ten saying poor sleep is contributing to stress and burnout (64%) (UK Mental Health, 2024);
Shown to be the case not just in the UK but across Europe: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the leading cause of work disability, sickness absence from work, 'presenteeism' and loss of productivity, (Bevan, 2015)
What this means....As succinctly put by Claudia Nicholls, (2023) Chief Customer Officer at Simplyhealth, '...companies need to implement preventative health and wellbeing strategies that are supported by the most senior levels of leadership and build line manager skills and confidence to support wellbeing.'
